Traveling to New Zealand – We have timed the wedding hopefully to suit the UK February school holidays, kids will be back to school in NZ so it will be quieter and hopefully easier to find accommodation around Auckland.
We are based in Murrays Bay, ideally you want to try and find a bach/house to rent on the North Shore, at any of these places along the coast – Takapuna, Milford, Murrays Bay, Castor Bay, Rothesay Bay, Campbells Bay and you will be lovely and close to us!
Some ideas below…
Hotel style accommodation:
Rakino Island – Rakino Island is truely a gem in the Huraki Gulf, just a short 45 minute ferry ride from Auckland, you will feel like you have landed in your own little slice of paradise, with it’s idyllic, rugged landscape, you will feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, that is why we love it so much.
It is good to be aware there are very few dwellings on Rakino Island. In order to enjoy an overnight stay on Rakino you would need to be well prepared, well equipped and completely self sufficient. The island has little over a dozen permanent residents, no shops or facilities and mains power and water is run by solar power or generators. The island has a limited public ferry service, with only two or three sailings per week (weather dependent) from the main wharf at Sandy Bay. If you choose to stay a night or two on Rakino either before or after the wedding, you will need to bring your own water and food supplies, organise your own transport and be prepared for compost toilets and limited access to hairdryers and straighteners!
This is why we are chartering a private ferry to get everyone to and from the island safely on the day. The venue we have hired has it’s own private jetty, where the ferry will be dropping our guests off and collecting them from at the end of the day. Times are still to be confirmed but you will be dropped back into Auckland City before 10pm on the day of the wedding so you can choose to continue on and party the night away if you wish!
